A Meme. A Meme Of Writing.
I groked this from
elin_gregory and decided to do it today, as I don't seem to have the brain power to do much else. Sadface. But! It's a meme, and I like memes, so, happy face!
Like all memes, I must tag others to do it too. So, I tag
meredith_shayne,
vayshti,
angharad_gam,
jana_denardo,
acosmistmachine,
maderr and
mickieashling. And anyone else who wants to play.

What is the title of the book you’re currently working on?
"City of Jade"
Where did the idea come from for the book?
It's a novel length sequel to the short story "City of Gold." The idea came to me originally because I wanted to write a m/m multiracial romance set in the twelfth century (one of my favourite centuries in history), and I wanted to set it in Byzantium. As a Byzantium-phile, I decided one character would be a Byzantine Greek and the other would be a Korean merchant. As the merchant would have arrived in Constantinople as part of a caravan travelling on the Silk Road, I wanted to expand the original short story into writing a medieval road trip novel. So I did. On the Silk Road, on horseback, in 1141-1142AD.
What genre does your book fall under?
Historical M/M Romance.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Ooh, I love this question, ngl. There are lots of characters in the book, but the two leads are Misahuen of Gyeongju, and I'd choose Takeshi Kaneshiro for him (I know, Takeshi is Taiwanese-Japanese - he's awesome and fits my mental image of Misahuen perfectly). The other lead is Gallienus of Constantinople, and I would choose Nikolaj Coster-Waldau for him.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Takeshi Kaneshiro.
What is a one-sentence synopsis of the book?
Leaving Constantinople behind and joining a merchant caravan as guards as it travels on the Silk Road, Gallienus and Misahuen set out in search of a new life together, in a land that does not penalise their love with harsh punishments - China, and the city of Hang'zhou.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Um, neither. I hope it'll be picked up by Dreamspinner Press.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
Ooh, a long time. I wrote 30K words a year and a bit ago, then put it aside to work on the first three Archangel novels and a short for Less Than Three Press and another long novella for another project. Then I picked it up again in October and wrote another 100K words... in 20 days. I amaze myself. Also, writing that much hurt my hands like hell. I won't be doing that again.
What other books would you compare this story to in your genre?
To be honest, I have no idea. I don't know if there are many in my genre that fit into the mid-twelfth century in the Byzantine Empire. Most of the historicals seem to be set much later or during the Roman Empire.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
My love of medieval history and my desire to write something set in my favourite historical time period and city.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
There's food, wine, fighting! Arrow fights! Sword fights! Sexy times, in secret and then later, not so secret. Jade, cooking, deserts, singing sand dunes, mountains that seem to touch the sky, yurts, yaks. Pomegranates! More wine. Illness and disease, food rationing, surviving kidnapping, murders, political unrest and war. And romance. Lots and lots of romance. All on the Silk Road, from Constantinople to Huang'Zhou, via Syria, Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and China.
